Gary R. BashamGary R. Basham is a founding partner of the law firm of Basham Parker LLP, where he exclusively practices employment law and related litigation. Mr. Basham advises clients on numerous workplace law issues and has extensive experience in wrongful termination, sexual harassment, retaliation, employment discrimination, wage and hour, and unfair competition litigation in federal and state courts and agencies throughout Northern California. Mr. Basham regularly defends employers against single and multi-plaintiff employment claims for breach of contract, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, unfair business practices, violation of wage and hour laws, as well as numerous other tort and statutory employment law causes of action. Substantive areas of expertise include the Age Discrimination and Employment Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII, Equal Pay Act, Family Medical Leave Act, California Fair Employment and Housing Act, California Labor Code, California Family Rights Act, California Workplace Violence Safety Act, and workplace privacy laws.

Mr. Basham is a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of California, Sacramento County Bar Association, Sacramento Human Resource Management Association, Central Valley Human Resource Management Association, California Chamber of Commerce, and Professional Liability Underwriting Society. For several years, Mr. Basham served on the California Chamber of Commerce’s Committee on Employee Relations. Mr. Basham also serves as a mediator for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California’s Voluntary Dispute Resolution Program.

Mr. Basham regularly speaks on a wide variety of employment law topics before a variety of organizations. He has been a guest speaker at the Northern California Human Resources Association’s Annual Conference, the Sacramento Human Resource Management Association’s Legal and Legislative Conference, the Sacramento Human Resource Management Association’s monthly breakfast seminars, the California Rehabilitation Association’s Annual CEO Workshop, the Central Valley Human Resource Management Association’s monthly seminars, the California Employer Advisory Council and the Sacramento County Law Library seminar series. He also frequently conducts training seminars on employment law issues for clients and colleagues.

Mr. Basham graduated with honors in 1984 from Michigan State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance. In 1987, Mr. Basham graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and received his Juris Doctor cum laude.

In addition to his law practice, Mr. Basham also is actively engaged in various community service activities. From December 2003 through May 2009, Mr. Basham was the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Union Gospel Mission, an organization dedicated to helping the homeless. Mr. Basham continues to volunteer his time to the Union Gospel Mission, as well as other organizations which feed the hungry and house the homeless.
